For many, online courses are the way to go. Traditional College Courses

Check with your local community college to see what they are offering in terms of educational programs for people who are interested in becoming a teacher’s assistant. Some colleges will offer a few classes you pay for out of your own pocket to earn certifications in things such as  Early Childhood Education or School-Aged Education, while they may also offer an associate’s degree in education, which will be all that is required of a teacher’s assistant position.

Free Training for Teacher’s Aides

If you are not quiet ready to invest in an education to become a teachers aide, then there are some free training options available that will still help you get a job as long as you at least have your high school diploma.

The best free training option for those wanting to become a teachers aide is go to volunteer your time. Work with a daycare or pre-school facility, as well as an elementary school, middle, and high school to help you determine which group of students you would be most interested in working with. While you are there, take some time to learn more about the requirements for getting a paid position, and tailor your plan to meet them.

On-the-job training is also a viable option if you live in or near a school district that allows this option. You’ll get up close and personal right away, getting student interaction and learning the ropes of the school and administration.

ParaPro Testing Requirements

Without passing the ParaPro test, you cannot become a teachers aide. This is an assessment that offers certification for those interested in becoming a teacher’s assistant. You must take this test to ensure you meet the qualifications set forth by “No Child Left Behind.” The test consists of 90 questions, most of which are general knowledge testing. The other part of the test focuses on the application of  classroom skills. The qualifying score you must earn to pass will vary based on the state you live in. You must pay a $45 fee to take the test, within 90 days of the actual test date in order to register.
